Il costo della guerra nel Regno di Sardegna attraverso i libri del batlle general Jordi de Planella (1396-1399)
War costs in the Kingdom of Sardinia througholut the registers of the batlle general Jordi de Planella (1396-1399)
Abstract
This study offers food for thought on the administration and cost of the war at the end of the 14th century in the Regnum Sardiniae et Corsicae, part of the Crown of Aragon. The documentary sources used to carry out the research are unpublished and stress the importance of extraordinary funding, provided in 1396-1399 by the Catalan Corts (Catalan parliamentary courts), in order to strengthen the defense of Iberian fortresses that survived in southern Sardinia. The analysis of the archival funds examined shows that this allocation underwent a clear and progressive increase over the three years and was disbursed as a separate chapter of expenditure compared to the financial commitments commonly provided for the defense of the island.
