The Spanish presence in Naples significantly increased following the reform of the Spanish Monarchy's army in the 1580s. In addition to military staff and members of the administration, hundreds of young women also relocated to the city of Naples to become part of the domestic service in the households of the military and government elite, including those of the viceroys. Through the study of notarial and inquisitorial sources and documentation from various charitable institutions, a collective narrative is constructed for pays attention to those who provided and hired this female domestic service, the conditions under which it was performed, and how it impacted the court's social organization.

Verónica Gallego Manzanares ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/800 Thu, 17 Apr 2025 15:17:47 +0200 La duchesse de Berry, veuve royale et porteuse d’espoir, entre tradition et innovation / The Duchess of Berry, royal widow and symbol of hope, between tradition and innovation. https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/768

This article analyses how the unexpected pregnancy of a princess who is neither dauphin nor widow of the king carries all the hopes of the Bourbon dynasty. The Duchess of Berry, pregnant at the time of her husband's assassination, was placed by the royal propaganda at the centre of a cycle from the death of her husband to his delivery. She became both a painful and courageous heroine, and was also included in the line of widowed sovereigns. The Restoration, through the figure of the princess, takes its place in the long history of the monarchy and maintains a form of sentimentality around the dynasty.
Matthieu Mensch ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/768 Thu, 17 Apr 2025 13:09:59 +0200 Introducción https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/974 Ángela Muñoz Fernández, Diana Pelaz Flores ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/974 Thu, 17 Apr 2025 12:45:44 +0200 La autoridad de las subrepticias: Las Camareras oficiosas de Isabel de Farnesio y María Amalia de Sajonia https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/797
This study raises the importance of analisying in depth the different ways of accessing power by women in different spaces of society and, more specifically, within the framework of the court sphere in the Eighteenth Century. To do this, a theoretical argument is made about the meaning of the concepts of power, authority and influence from a gender perspective; fundamental concepts to understand how an informal power structure based on personal relationships was established and developed through proximity and familiarity with the figures of the queens.

To show our hypothesis we present two hitherto unpublished cases, those of the Princess of Piombino and the Duchess of Castropignano, trusted women of Queens Isabella of Farnese and Maria Amalia of Saxony, respectively. Both Italian nobles who used their close personal ties with the royal consorts to achieve certain levels of influence over them, as well as to achieve certain levels of political intervention within the reigns of Philip V and Charles III.
Natalia Gonzalez Heras, Gloria Franco Rubio ##submission.copyrightStatement## https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/797 Thu, 17 Apr 2025 00:00:00 +0200 Queens and Queenship in Premodern Hungary: Research Problems and State of the Art in 2023 https://rime.cnr.it/index.php/rime/article/view/774
The essay gives a bibliographical overview of the research made on the history of Hungarian queens in the last two decades. First, it touches upon the most important dynastic relations of the different ruling houses of the Kingdom of Hungary between 1000-1600 AD. Second, it offers a checklist of the most researched aspects of queenship, focusing on the last four queens of medieval Hungary: Beatrix of Aragon, Anne Candale-Foix, Mary of Habsburg and Isabella Jagiellon. It also calls attention to themes that would be worth examining in international cooperation, e.g. the relations between Saluzzo, Poland and the Principality of Transylvania.

Gonfalone di Monterotondo (Rome) is one of the oldest institutions in the city, whose origins date back to at least 1343. The papers of the Notarial Archive of Monterotondo allow us to follow its events, outlining its administrative and financial affairs. This is direct and indirect documentation which, between the 16th and 17th centuries, also testifies to the exploitation of the hospital's "pietrara". This ensured continuous income through the contracting out of the mining activity, teams of Lombard professionals obtained travertine and flakes for many Roman factories and also "per servitio de la Fabrica di S.
