The Sardinia economy in the Late Middle Ages: remarks and food for thoughts about new researches
Abstract
The paper aims to discuss the results of the most recent economic surveys related to the evolution of Sardinia, between the 13th and 15th centuries, with a special focus on the Mediterranean commercial networks, the presence of foreign merchant elite, the impact of war and plague in the crisis of the Trecento. The comparative perspective allows to put the Sardinian case in correlation with contemporary phenomena occurred in the Italian Mezzogiorno and in other regions of the western Mediterranean, enhancing both the similarities and the characteristics of the island events.
