Kingdom of Sardinia and seigneurial powers in the 14th century
Abstract
The question of relations between the kingdom of Sardinia and the ruling lordships of the island became strategic looking forward the hoped-for conquest, since the papal investiture of 1297 in favor of James II of Aragon. The political geography after the dissolution of the old giudicale organization was extremely articulated; it was characterized by the presence of local powers (lords and communes), with the hegemonic role (direct and indirect) of Pisa. The relationship between the King of Aragon and each of these subjects is based on the stipulation of a series of feudal agreements, but after 1323 it becomes fragile and during the same century it was definitively shattered.
