The 17th century Marquises of Quirra: Strategies and difficulties in defending their patrimonial rights
Abstract
Through the trajectory of the 17th century Marquises de Quirra, it is possible to observe the social, economic and kinship strategies that developed between the title holders and the different lineages involved.
Likewise, we can analyze how the Marquises and their respective families fought for their patrimonial rights from the marriage negotiations until after their death. The feudal state of Quirra was a source of income for the Valencian nobles who took over the title at the beginning of the century. However, in order to consolidate their domains and promote themselves socially, all of them became involved in a long judicial tangle that increased due to the lack of descendants.
