The Church in Africa between evangelisation and inculturation
Abstract
This article analyses the relationship between the Catholic Church and the African States born as independent institutions after the process of decolonization, which begun in Africa since the 1960s. During this period the Church was shaken by the Second Vatican Council, a revolutionary pro-ject resulting from the direct will of pope John XXIII and further developed after his death by Paul V. The Second Vatican Council brought about a new spirit and a new interest towards the relationship with the Af-rican continent, as clearly testified by the attention paid to the issue by Paul VI and summarized in the document Africae Terrarum (1967).
