The architecture and equipment of the Sant'Antonio Hospital in Cagliari between the 17th and early 18th centuries
Abstract
The essay analyzes the architectural events of the Hospital of Sant'Antonio Abate in Cagliari between the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The Fatebenefratelli complex underwent an intense building phase sponsored by the prior Nicolò Polcasio, starting from 1674. The ecclesiastic entrusted the management of the building to the Ligurian master Domenico Spotorno, assisted by his Sardinian colleagues Antonio Cucuru, Pietro Carta, Antonio Cannas and Antioco Seu. The same masters signed the contract for the reconstruction of the church annexed to the convent, built in the first decade of the eighteenth century by other builders.
