A presença de António da Noli em Cabo Verde
The presence of Antonio da Noli in Cape Verde
Abstract
The Cape Verde archipelago was discovered uninhabited between 1460 and 1462. In 1462, its settlement began on the island of Santiago. It was divided into two captaincies. The northern half, with Alcatrazes as its capital, was handed over to Diogo Afonso, the infante's squire and discoverer of the islands of the western group, and the southern region, with Ribeira Grande as its capital, now known as Cidade Velha, was handed over to Antonio de Noli, discoverer of the islands orientals (Luz, 2013). Having been the only one attributed to a foreigner in the entire history of the discoveries in Portugal (Rosário, 1977 and Balla, 2015), the city became an important center of economic development.
