L'Ordine dei Frati Minori Cappuccini nel Regno di Sardegna (secoli XVI-XVII)
The Order of Friars Minor Capuchin in Sardinia (16th-17th centuries)
Abstract
In 1553 the Order of Friars Minor Capuchin sent the preacher Egidio Pulignatus to the Ploaghe diocese, and in 1591 founded its firsts convents in Sassari and Cagliari. The presence of the Order was wanted by the municipalities and the two cities' archbishops, for matters of supremacy. In Sassari the municipality controlled the convent by inserting local friers and appointing Sassari-born people to the convent's high offices. In the first half of the XVII century, the Order was expanding in Sardinia. It surpassed the degrowth movement of the years 1613-1643 to remain a vigorous order until the end of Spanish age.
