I dati archeologici
Sassari in the Kingdom of Sardinia in Catalan and Spanish times: The archaeological data
Abstract
Archaeological investigations in Sassari's historic centre have added material evidence to the picture of knowledge about the city during the periods of the Catalan-Aragonese and Spanish Kingdoms. Regarding the first phase, the excavations have uncovered some remains of the Aragonese castle, some 14th-15th century private houses, and the burials in the cemetery outside the Cathedral. For Spanish Sassari, the most significant archaeological documents refer to the Inquisition Tribunal at the castle, the first home to the University, a local production of polychrome majolica, and the 16th-17th century burials inside the Cathedral.
