The use of Sardinian language in the 16th century: The case of some documents preserved at the Archivio storico comunale of Sassari
Abstract
The 16th century marks the point in time when Sardinia becomes aware of itself as an European political entity. The 16th century can also be defined as multilingual for the co-existence of different spoken and written languages in different contexts of use. In the north of the island, among the languages employed in administrative documents, one encounters Sardinian language, sometimes used as an instrument of political dissent.
