Politics, economics, and diplomacy in Barcelona at the turn of the civil war of 1462-72: Some notes from the registers of the notary of the Consulate of the Sea Joan Fogassot
Abstract
The 14th and 15th were centuries of great importance for the history of the Mediterranean Sea. The Crown of Aragon was one of the most important protagonists of that period. The Catalan civil war marked, however, a clear caesura, especially for the city of Barcelona. With this study, we would like to look at the power dynamics that involved the institution representing mercantile and shipping interests of Barcelona, in the years leading up to and following the Catalan Civil War, through the papers handed down by notary Joan Fogassot, the real protagonist of this research.
