Without the empire: Italian communities in East Africa between imperial myth and the end of colonialism
Abstract
Italian colonialism was characterized by a colonial population policy. Such policies, at least in the programs, intensified after the proclamation of the Italian East African empire in 1936. The article investigates how the Italian communities in East Africa organized themselves and redefined their position starting from 1941 and the end of the administration Italian in those territories.
Il colonialismo italiano si caratterizzò per una politica di popolamento delle colonie. Tali politiche, almeno nei programmi si intensificarono dopo la proclamazione dell’impero dell’Africa orientale italiana nel 1936. L’articolo indaga come le comunità italiane in Africa orientale si organizzarono e ridefinirono la loro posizione a partire dal 1941 e dalla fine dell’amministrazione italiana in quei territori.
