Scritture dello Stato e archivi notarili a Roma in età barocca
State records and notarial archives in Rome in the baroque
Abstract
This essay analyses the systems of production and preservation of documents that characterised the central and municipal magistracies of Rome in the modern age, starting from the interpretations that were formulated in the first half of the twentieth century. In the long seventeenth century in Rome, it was the notaries, public officials and freelancers who were the editors and custodians of the administrative and judicial documentation produced in the capital of the Ecclesiastical State. This was an archival reality that never gave rise to places of documentary concentration similar to those that developed in other Italian states in the same period.
