Abstract
Os eventos políticos ocorridos em Portugal nos anos 1578-80 catalizaram a atenção de todos os estados europeus, estando a ser detalhadamente estudados e avaliados pela República de Veneza que pôs em movimento a sua bem estruturada máquina diplomática. Dois embaixadores extraordinários, Vincenzo Tron e Girolamo Lippomani, foram enviados, acompanhados por um secretário, ao reino de Portugal com o objectivo de recolher informações e relatar a situação do país à beira do Atlântico. Entre 26 de Julho até 14 de Agosto de 1581, os dois diplomáticos venezianos ficaram em Lisboa e redigiram uma Relazione na qual anotaram as peculiaridades da capital portuguesa.
The political events that occurred in Portugal in the years 1578-80 catalysed the attention of all European states, and were being thoroughly studied and evaluated by the Republic of Venice, which set in motion its well-structured diplomatic machinery. Two extraordinary ambassadors, Vincenzo Tron and Girolamo Lippomani, were sent, accompanied by a secretary, to the kingdom of Portugal in order to gather information and report on the situation in the country on the edge of the Atlantic. Between 26 July and 14 August 1581, the two Venetian diplomats stayed in Lisbon and drew up a Relazione in which they noted the peculiarities of the Portuguese capital.
