A López y López. Quinto asalto. Memorias incómodas en el espacio público
To López y López. The Fifth Assault. Inconvenient memories in the public space
Abstract
In this article we approach the management of Dissonant Heritage from an interdisciplinary reflection between history, memory and public art. Specifically, we analyse the Monument to López y López in Barcelona, and its evolution since its construction in 1884. The “assaults” on this symbol of the bourgeois, colonial and slave-owning city operated throughout the century adding semiotic levels to the monument itself, which is partially re-signified by the City Council, in 2018. Finally, a public art project prefigures a methodological reflection on the management of Dissonant heritage.
