The comfortable Spanish colonial memory. Yesterday's Empire and Today's Spain
Abstract
Despite the strength that studies on coloniality are acquiring in the Spanish State, reflection on colonial practices themselves is very little extended. In academic settings, the academic discourse created based on other realities is frequently reproduced, without delving into those specific points of the Spanish colonial reality. On the other hand, at the popular level, the colonial phenomenon is again a benchmark of Spanish identity. In times of reinforcement of Spanish nationalist sentiment, colonial pride returns, even supported by state institutions.
