Abstract

The text makes some observations in relation to the subject of slavery, that is to say the "Genoese" trade in human beings in the Mediterranean at the end of the Middle Ages, also in order to offer a starting point for the same trade, always "Genoese", towards the Atlantic, but obviously subsequent to the Colombian enterprise.  In the Middle Ages Genoa was a Mediterranean emporium to which all goods flowed, including slaves mainly from eastern regions close to the Genoese colonies, such as Chilia and Licostomo, at the mouth of the Danube, Caffa in the extreme eastern part of the Black Sea, Pera, Chios, Mytilini and Cyprus.
