Pastoral visits in Sardinia during the MiddleAges and the Modern Age: difficulties, modalities, sources, historiography

Abstract

The article analyzes the church institute of the pastoral visit, by focusing on the Sardinian dioceses during the Middle Ages and the Modern age. The author, primarily introduces information related to the visits conducted by archbishops in such epochs to give us a general view, then specify the elements which made difficult the fulfilment of the pastoral visits in Sardinia; furthermore describes the typical formalities of the visitatio; moreover  he shows the sources which are available for the historical investigation and reconstruction of the habits in Sardinian visits. The final part is characterized by one note relating to the specific studies and the related computer elaborations.

L'articolo analizza l'istituto ecclesiale della visita pastorale, focalizzando l'attenzione sulle diocesi sarde durante il medioevo e l'età moderna. L'autore, dopo alcuni cenni sulle notizie inerenti alle visite svolte in Sardegna in tali epoche, si sofferma sugli elementi che rendevano difficoltosa l'esecuzione delle visite pastorali nel territorio sardo; descrive le modalità tipiche della visitatio; evidenzia le fonti disponibili per l'indagine storica e la ricostruzione della prassi visitale sarda. L'articolo è concluso da una nota sugli studi specifici e sulle relative elaborazioni informatiche.
