The Catalan-Aragonese conquest of Sardinia through an eighteenth-century mercedary chronicle
Abstract
The Historia eclesiástica de Cataluña is a seventeenth century chronicle, with a popular nature, written by the Mercedarian monk from Barcelona Pere Serra i Postíus, housed in the Catalan University Library. It recounts the historical facts relating to the territories of the Crown of Aragon and Spain by the late Middle Ages to Modern times. The work is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and to the miracles attributed to Her in the most characteristic Catalan historical events, that the monk knews from various works kept in his extensive library or from archival sources.
L’Historia eclesiástica de Cataluña è una cronaca di natura divulgativa del XVII secolo, scritta dal frate mercedario barcellonese Pere Serra i Postíus e custodita nella Biblioteca Universitaria catalana. Racconta fatti storici relativi ai territori della Corona d’Aragona e di Spagna dai secoli basso-medievali all’Età moderna. L’opera è dedicata alla Vergine Maria e ai prodigi a Lei attribuiti negli eventi storici catalani più caratteristici, che il frate conobbe da varie opere conservate nella sua ricca biblioteca o da fonti archivistiche.
