Taxation of Sardinian and Sicilian wheat in late medieval and modern Valencia
Abstract
The main function of the governmental institutions of the city of Valencia consisted of providing supply, above all wheat due to its shortage in Valencia. Hence the city needed to resort to its importation from Sicily and Sardinia, becoming the cereals the first taxable object.
