Gazes on the Italian printing in New Spain in the 16th century
Abstract
The arrival of the printing in the Nueva España followed the same concerns and procedures of the first printing presses in Spain in the 1470’s. The differences due to the specific conditions and needs produced certain particularities, yet the influence of German and Italian printers and booksellers remained very strong in the first decades in Spain and its territories. This text aims to recall the importance of certain Italian printers and especially those of the Giunti family, whose books were an important part of conventual libraries throughout New Spain.
