Italia-Messico.
Italy-Mexico. Historical profile of a remote encounter (16th - 21st centuries)
Abstract
The paper focuses on the cultural relations between Italy and Mexico from the Renaissance up to present-day Globalization. Italo Calvino’s pages guides the historical sketch. In his maturity, the Italian writer has actually outlined some interesting reflections on the multicultural and intercultural nature of Mexican historical experience. Following Italo Calvino’s taste for the things and for a sort of Herodotean autopsia, the paper aims to offer at the same time some considerations on the historical formation of the collective imagination and on the use and the abuse of the images in the history of the international relations.
