For a history of cultural and artistic relations between Italy and Iceland

Abstract

The history of cultural and artistic relations between Italy and Iceland retraced here aims to provide the Italian language reader with some data with which perhaps to build in the future a more systematic treatment of relations between the North Atlantic island now called Iceland and the Italian region. The period covered is very long and goes from the so-called Viking era to today, with some brief reference to what happened in previous eras in which Iceland was certainly known more than is generally suspected today.

La storia dei rapporti culturali e artistici tra Italia e Islanda qui ripercorsa ha lo scopo di fornire al lettore di lingua italiana alcuni dati con cui magari poter costruire in futuro una più sistematica trattazione delle relazioni tra l’isola nord-atlantica oggi denominata Islanda e la regione italiana. Il periodo trattato è assai ampio e va dalla così detta “epoca vichinga” ad oggi, con qualche breve accenno anche a quanto accaduto nelle epoche precedenti in cui l’Islanda era sicuramente conosciuta più di quanto oggi generalmente si sospetta.
