Finding the forms for a" historical" videogame . Minimalism and "small games"
Abstract
This article contributes to the emerging discussion on the use of video games as tools for historical mediation, which we refer to as “historiographical video games.” Our approach focuses on artistic practices—that is, on how such games configure forms, work with materials, and develop an aesthetic or stylistic language suited to conveying historical interpretation. Using the example of small games, we demonstrate how certain aesthetic conventions can make visible specific methodological principles, such as the trace of enunciation, the acknowledgment of sources, and the primacy of historical mediation over ludic mediation.
