L’avanzata del Turco nelle lettere degli informatori fiorentini in Levante: aggiornamenti politici, ragguagli militari, false notizie (1453-1470)
The Ottomans’ advance in the letters of Florentine informants in the Levant: political updates, military reports, false information (1453-1470)
Abstract
This article aims to investigate the circulation of information between Florence and Constantinople after the Ottoman conquest. Practical aspects related to the travel of news, such as timing, stops, and carriers, will be examined to describe the development of a Florentine information system in Turkish Romània in three stages, based on both fixed and mobile networks. The contribution will then focus, as a case study, on the traffic of political-military information by comparing published and unpublished sources.
