La Curia pontificia e l’Impero ottomano
The Papal Court and the Ottoman Empire
Abstract
The essay deals with the importance of the papacy and the Curia for the context of European relations with the Ottomans. It analyzes the influence of the popes and the papal court, as well as the actors and texts. Furthermore, the article explores the question of whether there is a history of the longue durée in relation to the crusades and shows that there are late medieval and early modern sources that construct precisely this development retrospectively. One of these sources is a treatise by Mato Ragnina on the Venetian-Turkish peace of 1479.
