Strategic interests and necessary affinities. The union of the crowns as an aspiration during the War of Spanish Succession
Abstract
The War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1715) was a conflict that affected deep levels of society and politics. More than just two kingdoms or candidates were opposed. Two different styles in the construction of power faced each other, beyond the civil, dynastic and international war. In this work we analyze some topics that are related to the links of the two crowns of Spain and France, which were manifested during the first years of the War based on the testimonies of contemporary authors. These testimonies take in account the arguments of those who questioned or supported the Union of the crowns of Spain and France at the beginning of the 18th century.
