A new culture of care. The Holy Spirit Hospital in Palermo in the 15th century
Abstract
The 15th century marked a critical juncture with strong repercussions on economic, political and welfare structures. In order to respond to the needs of a changing society and in line with a process of Reform of the Hospital system, even in Palermo the small structures that had guaranteed hospitality and minimal forms of assistance were aggregated into a Great hospital. The essay outlines the complex founding process of the new Palermo institution, inspired by different models of Hospital management.
