Genoa, the Crown of Aragon and Sardinia: a decisive turning point in the Mediterranean balance
Abstract
The Genoese reaction to the Catalan-Aragonese landing with which the long campaign for the conquest of Sardinia began was unpredictably limited. In fact, even contemporary narrative sources are almost completely silent about the initial stages of operations on the island.
This may reflect the state of civil war, or the greater consideration that the big traders still gave at that time to the eastern routes, but it is undeniable that this lack of interest has contributed to discrediting the aristocratic regime and started the transition to the government of the Populus.
