Episcopal appointments in Sardinia between the papal reserve and the Aragonese conquest (1294-1352)
Abstract
Between the end of the 13th century and the middle of the 14th century, the relations between the popes and the dioceses of Sardinia experienced a progressive centralization of the episcopal appointments through the special and then the general reserves, which led to a general deprivation of the Sardinian chapters. Following the Aragonese invasion of the island, the same papal centralization, exercised through the reserves and a dense network of collectors, favored the influence of the kings of Aragon on Sardinian appointments, found above all in the chronotaxis of the archbishops of Cagliari and Torres.
