Nicolás Carroz de Arborea, Viceroy of Sardinia, in the light of the documentation of the peninsular noble archives (15th century)
Abstract
Analyzing the progression of the Carroz lineage throughout the 15th century through peninsular nobiliary documentation has been the main task proposed in this contribution. In particular, special emphasis is placed on the portrait of the Sardinian viceroy during the decades 1460-70, coinciding with a period of social and political turmoil on the island. According to the sources examined, this aristocratic character meets many of the conditions and qualities that characterize this administrative figure of the first order in the Sardinian kingdom, with an indisputable power and responsibility in both the public and private spheres, whose influence and the repercussions of their decisions did not go unnoticed in the short and even the long term.
