Remarks on the pastoral activity of Antonio Parragues de Castillejo, Archbishop of Cagliari, in the years 1559-1568

Abstract

This work is based on a much wider research that the author has carried out on the theme of ecclesiastical visitation in Sardinia. The research in question was started in 2002 with a project entitled The pastoral visits to the Sardinian dioceses between the Middle Ages and the Modern Age, financed by the Autonomous Region of Sardinia and carried out in collaboration with the University of Cagliari1. The study aimed first of all to find and list the visiting materials produced in the Sardinian dioceses between the Middle Ages and the first half of the nineteenth century, in order to have as complete a picture as possible of the visiting documentation available for a chronological span of long duration and for each of the Sardinian dioceses.
