Women seen by women. Italian and Argentine at the beginning of the 20th century

Abstract

The invitation to participate in this publication, which attempts to rescue the Italian-Argentine relations at the beginning of the 20th century, prompted us to analyze the Italian presence at the First International Women's Congress of the Argentine Republic held in May 1910 in Buenos Aires, as a commemoration of their first cry for freedom. The following pages try to reconstruct the image that a very small group of Italian women had of other women in the preludes of the twentieth century, a time in which they tried, sometimes vainly, to be heard. Habitually absent from the public scene, they had understood that they were being left out of history and began to claim what they considered their rights.

La invitación a participar en esta publicación que intenta rescatar las relaciones ítalo argentinas a principios del siglo XX, nos impulsó a analizar la presencia italiana en el Primer Congreso Femenino Internacional de la República Argentina celebrado en mayo de 1910 en Buenos Aires, como conmemoración de su primer grito de libertad. as páginas que siguen intentan reconstruir la imagen que un pequeñísimo grupo de mujeres italianas tenía sobre sus congéneres en los preludios del siglo XX, época en la que ellas intentaban, a veces vanamente, ser escuchadas. Habitualmente ausentes de la escena pública, habían entendido que se las dejaba fuera de la historia y comenzaron a reclamar por lo que consideraban sus derechos.
