An "ultra-light" industry: the Editorial Abril between Argentina and Italy (1941-1957)
Abstract
The article deals with the history of a publishing house, created in Argentina in 1941 by for Italian-Jewish immigrants, forced to exile. One of them Cesare Civita, had worked for the publishing house Mondadori, in the field of popular magazines. In Argentina he created his own publishing house: the Editorial Abril, and started publishing a series of small and inexpensive children’s books and the magazine El Pato Donald. Then started to produce a very successful series of comics (historietas) and picture stories. In the Fifties the publishing house got a big success with a new series of children books (Gatito and Bolsillitos) and tried to introduce the science fiction in the Argentine market with the magazine Más Allá.
