L’ospedale medievale: esperienza di vita religiosa e caritativa
The medieval hospital: experience of religious and charitable life
Abstract
The devotional brotherhoods had an important role in hospitality those in need: sick and derelict, pilgrims and vagabonds, abandoned children. Through the 14th and 15th centuries notarial documents, we aim to know the organisation of the care facilities managed by the secular religious unions of Palermo, the circumstances of their foundation, the government, the activities, the administration of the heritage constituted through legacies and donations from those who entrusted their earthly immortality and intercession for the salvation of the soul to the associative structures.
