The business of war: about France's interests in the War of Succession
Abstract
The War of Succession to the crown of Spain required an enormous military and economic effort, in which the France of Louis XIV had a leading role: on the military level by sending troops to fight alongside Philip V's armies; on the economic sphere, supplying weapons, uniforms and military supplies to the Spanish armies. The cost of these troops, initially financed by France, was modified in 1708 so that Spain would bear a part of that expense, therefore an agreement was established by which the Hispanic contribution would be used to pay for the contracts that the French moneylenders had signed with Felipe V.
