Abstract
The writer Giovanni Arpino is the 1978 Football World Cup correspondent from Argentina for the newspaper La Stampa. His articles slowly become more and more complex: he reports about the matches, of course, but he also deals with the historical and cultural problems of Argentina. Arpino individuates and comments on the traces left by Italian immigrants and their descendants in the culture of Argentinian culture, and the special relationship that the Argentinians have built with Europe.
In occasione dei Campionati mondiali di calcio del 1978, lo scrittore Giovanni Arpino si reca in Argentina come inviato del giornale La Stampa. Via via le sue corrispondenze si trasformano in un vero e proprio reportage-racconto in cui le notizie e i commenti sportivi si mescolano alle osservazioni sugli aspetti storici, culturali e politici dell’Argentina. Inoltre, Arpino non trascura di rilevare e commentare le tracce che gli immigranti italiani e i loro discendenti hanno lasciato nella cultura rioplatense e il particolare rapporto che gli argentini hanno instaurato con l’Europa.
