The Representation of History in Video Games. The Art of Disinformation and Propaganda Through the Lens of Rhetoric
Abstract
This article proposes an analysis of the representation of History in video games through the lens of procedural rhetoric, cultural mediation, and convergence culture. Based on a comparative study of Call of Duty: World at War and 11-11: Memories Retold, it examines the ideological, aesthetic, and memorial logics conveyed by these works, highlighting their active role in shaping a historical imaginary.
Cet article propose d’analyser la représentation de l’Histoire dans les jeux vidéo au prisme de la rhétorique procédurale, de la médiation culturelle et de la culture de la convergence. À partir d’une analyse comparée de Call of Duty: World at War et 11-11: Memories Retold, il interroge les logiques idéologiques, esthétiques et mémorielles véhiculées par ces œuvres, en soulignant leur rôle actif dans la construction d’un imaginaire historique.
